Each year we lose thousands of people from drug overdose globally. Some survive but suffer a permanent injury, with devastating impact to their families and friends.
North East is not immune. You may have seen it, it has happened to people around you. Tomorrow, it could happen to someone you love. This is not an invisible issue.
International Overdose Awareness Day provides an opportunity for us to reflect on practical ways to prevent overdose in our community. Overdose is preventable. Knowing the real facts about drugs and what to do when you see someone experiencing an overdose DOES save lives. Overdose Day events that aim to educate our communities about drugs can really help.
At St. Mary Anne’s, we are playing our part to support the day with a candlelight vigil onThursday, August 31 st at 7:00PM .
The event will help you understand how overdose affects every single one of us and how you can make a difference. During our service, we will ring our historic bell for everyone who has died by a drug overdose in Cecil County during the past year.
Let’s take a united stand against drug abuse. Please come and pray for our neighbors and our community.

Paddling 4 Parkinson’s

kyacksMany of us have enjoyed kayaking right from the SMA wharf during our church picnic and youth group events. On September 9th, at 1:00PM, we can enjoy kayaking and help the Maryland Association for Parkinson Support at the same time!
Paddling 4 Parkinson’s will benefit Maryland Association for Parkinson Support (MAPS). MAPS is dedicated to providing support to the Parkinson’s Disease Community. This event will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. (September 16th – For rain or small craft advisory) in the town of North East, Maryland.
Paddlers will launch from West Church Point Road into the North East River. Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to launching to ensure time to unload your kayak or complete the rental process. Please be ready to launch at 1 p.m.

To rent a kayak, please contact Bay Venture Outfitters prior to the event date letting them know you will be participating in Paddling 4 Parkinson’s. Rental fees should be paid directly to Bay Venture Outfitters. All proceeds from kayak rentals will be donated to MAPS.
Schedule your rental soon! Available kayaks will go quickly! Please come for an afternoon of fun and help raise money to support MAPS!

Mystery Trip Bus Adventure!

Where are we bringing you? We aren’t telling!
Discover an Eastern Shore Anomaly: From the Holy Grail of the Anglican Community in the New World to a 350 year old Waterman’s Community…Discover a Chesapeake Bay trinity view the likes of which few have really seen…Enjoy lunch in an Austrian setting…See Eagles, and Osprey soaring, and try Oriole RavenBerry homemade ice cream…All without going too far from home…as you enjoy this mysterious day!
Coach departs St. Mary Anne’s 9AM, and with return approx. at 5:45PM. Participants should wear good walking shoes, and might want to bring binoculars.
Lunch menu: Lobster Bisque, Entree choice of Fresh Flounder with Crab Meat, Sirloin Steak, or Chicken Marsala. Dessert TBA.
This mysterious adventure will be guided by Wayne & Ann Hill from Hill Travel. Tickets will be $55.00 and includes: motor-coach, lunch and snacks. This fun adventure is open to parishioners, friends and family. Register with Andrea Pugh or Karen Schaeffer.

Blessing of the Backpacks

backpacks-838x321We will do our 2nd Annual Blessing of the Backpacks on Sunday, August 27th at both 8 AM and 10 AM services.

Please bring your empty backpack to church for Father John to bless. You will receive a special gift for your backpack!

August is Diaper Drive Month!

 baby_playing_upside_downWe have had a substantial increase in requests for diapers from our Outreach clients. So we have deemed August “Diaper Drive Month”. We are asking for disposable diapers and baby wipes. Sizes 2 thru 6 are the most requested!
Diaper donations will be blessed on the 4th Sunday of the month–August 27th. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
