Our Youth Group is Growing!

 We need two leaders who are able to attend most youth group meetings.

Youth group meetings are held the 2nd & 4th Sunday’s from 1-3 PM. One meeting a month is a lesson/activity done at the Church; the other is usually an off campus activity, i.e. bowling, escape room, mission opportunities.

We also need helpers who can commit to one Sunday a month.  The helpers assist with beverages,     transportation to off-campus activities, and purchase supplies.  The leader would let you know if they need something special.

We are forming a Youth Group Committee. This group will meet two times a year to review what’s       happening in youth group, provide input for activities, coordinate when meals are needed, or take on a special onetime activity, i.e. help with fund raising,  shopping, etc.

Training will be provided for all ministries relating to Youth Group.

If you have any questions or are interested in this ministry, please let Fr. John, Janice Flood or the VPOW know.

Our Church School is Growing!

 Because of this growth, we need some more teachers, helpers and leaders!

 

We need:

Two Church School teachers and three helpers starting Sept. 17th. . We can use you once or twice a month on Sunday mornings from  9:30-10:30AM. Class starts @9:45. We have three classrooms, 4yrs-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade, and 6-8th grades.

What does a teacher do?  A teacher leads the provided lesson, prepares the materials as needed, and helps to bring the children over to Church at approx. 10:30AM.

What does the helper do?  The helper reads the lesson and assists the teacher as needed. They also take children to the restroom, and help with transport from   classroom to church at 10:30AM.

We provide training for all teachers and helpers. The training is Sept 16th 9:30-10:30AM we will review curriculum, supplies, and how to use additional materials, including a  games box.

If you cannot help on Sunday morning, please consider being part of the Church School Support Committee.  This group helps with buying supplies; provides extra hands for preparing special lesson materials; and supports teachers and helpers. We meet twice a year; and correspond via email when help is needed.

Every classroom must have two adults over 21 to provide a safe environment for our children, so please consider this valuable ministry.

Parish Hall and Kitchen:
Thanks to Jim & Nancy Siglow, Lisa & Jim Simon, George Kaplan, Ken Blomquist, Ethan Kiger, Fr. John, and a skilled member of the NA group that uses the hall for meetings, the Parish Hall continues to shape up!
The ceiling tiles are all installed; hanging the blinds has begun and will be completed soon; the baseboard trim has been painted and will go on next week; and several of the doors are now closing more easily. Pro Flooring has our beautiful new floor down too!
The kitchen and the restroom renovations are waiting in the wings. Thanks for your contributions to completing the kitchen, and all of your hard work!
Sidewalks:
On the outside, we are poised to begin the replacement of the sidewalks around the churchyard. We have contracted with Lynch Repair and Remodeling, to have the work done. (Coincidentally, Judy and Pat Lynch’s grandchild will be baptized in the church!)
Here is the sidewalk schedule for the week of September 11th:
Monday – all sidewalks broken and removed.
Tuesday – Sidewalk from Church Point Road to side entrance of the church
and sidewalk from Hoopes Court to gravel driveway poured.
Wednesday – Sidewalk from side entrance of church to Hoopes Court
and sidewalk from gravel driveway to blacktop driveway by Parish House poured.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday for initial curing – NO FOOT TRAFFIC.
By Sunday, we will be able to walk on the sidewalks.
27 days from the pouring of concrete for further curing – NO LAWN TRACTORS, VEHICLES, OR HEAVY EQUIPMENT; 45 days from pouring until full cure.

Hurricane Relief

The flood images from the Houston area are heartbreaking. I can’t imagine how desperate the residents of South Texas must feel. Homes, businesses, livelihoods and worse of all, lives and health, have been impacted from this deluge.
I feel we need to help, and I am confident you feel the same way. Bishop San encourages our help, too. Here is his note to parishes in our diocese; and his plea for contributions to the Episcopal Relief Fund & Development Fund for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Dear Diocese of Easton,
I have been watching the weather events of Hurricane Harvey unfold in Texas with great concern for our brothers and sisters. It is in times of suffering and loss when we can most clearly become aware of God’s presence.
We here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland understand what it means to live in an area that is close to the waters and susceptible to floods. Because of this we understand the fear that happens when large hurricanes come up the Atlantic Ocean. We can also remember times, not that long ago, when other hurricanes and tropical storms devastated our part of the world. We understand this disaster because we
have lived this disaster before.
In living through previous disasters, we can attest to God’s presence. We have experienced the love that comes through the touch of another person’s hand, or through the smile on another human’s face, or the love expressed in another soul’s eyes. We know these things because we have lived these things, in both the giving and the receiving. And through it all, we know that God is with us. We give thanks for God’s loving presence.
We can also give thanks for the work of the Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD), who worked so tirelessly on behalf of the town of Crisfield, in our own diocese, after Super Storm Sandy in 2012. We should not forget that when we needed help, the Episcopal Church was there for us. Now it is our turn to offer that help to others who also need it. Now we can be that beacon of God’s love to a broken community that is truly under the dark clouds of a massive storm.
I invite you to help by making donations to the ERD in one of three ways. The first is by visiting the ERD website:http://www.episcopalrelief.org/ and clicking on the ‘donate now’ button that pops up. The second way would be to write a check for the Bishop’s Discretionary Fund, with a note in the memo line stating ‘Hurricane Relief’ and send it to me here at Bray House, 314 North Street, Easton, MD 21601. I will forward monies that I receive to the bishops in the impacted area so that they can reach out to specific needs that they are aware of. And lastly, please take a special collection on Sunday at your parish and forward the money to ERD.
Above all, I ask for your prayers for the people who have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Remember them and pray for them for they will be cleaning up from this storm for many years to come.

Paddling 4 Parkinson’s

kyacksMany of us have enjoyed kayaking right from the SMA wharf during our church picnic and youth group events. On September 9th, at 1:00PM, we can enjoy kayaking and help the Maryland Association for Parkinson Support at the same time!
Paddling 4 Parkinson’s will benefit Maryland Association for Parkinson Support (MAPS). MAPS is dedicated to providing support to the Parkinson’s Disease Community. This event will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. (September 16th – For rain or small craft advisory) in the town of North East, Maryland.
Paddlers will launch from West Church Point Road into the North East River. Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to launching to ensure time to unload your kayak or complete the rental process. Please be ready to launch at 1 p.m.

To rent a kayak, please contact Bay Venture Outfitters prior to the event date letting them know you will be participating in Paddling 4 Parkinson’s. Rental fees should be paid directly to Bay Venture Outfitters. All proceeds from kayak rentals will be donated to MAPS.
Schedule your rental soon! Available kayaks will go quickly! Please come for an afternoon of fun and help raise money to support MAPS!
