Sunday School Registration

August 31, 2016 by St Mary Anne Admin

children educationSunday school registration will be held at Hoopes Court on Sunday, September 11th between and after services.

Nursery school and grade school children can participate each week in Sunday school classes during our Education Hour( 9:15AM-10:15AM). This time period is conveniently held between our 8:00AM and 10:30AM Sunday Services. During our Education Hour, adult participants gather in the Parish Hall for coffee and an educational program, while  children move downstairs to the children’s classrooms for their instruction. In this way, families can fully participate in either worship service and also enjoy education and fellowship.

Almighty God, heavenly Father, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children: Give us calm strength and patient wisdom as we bring them up, that we may teach them to love whatever is just and true and good, following the example of our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. (BCP, p. 829)

Blessing of the Backpacks

August 4, 2016 by St Mary Anne Admin

backpack blessingOn Sunday, August 28th, our parish is offering students some divine help! Students of all ages are invited to bring their backpack or book bag to church for a Blessing of the Backpacks at our 8:00 and 10:30 Services.

Many of us are starting a new school year and August is a busy month of preparation. We finish our reading assignments; find out our teacher’s names; discover who is in our classes; and we shop for back to school supplies for our backpacks. We are ready to learn!

Yet, Jesus teaches his disciples that it is not just the things we do and the things we have that are important, but rather it is the feelings and thoughts that we have in our hearts that matter most. That is why at the Blessing of the Backpacks, we will gather to celebrate the beginning of the new school year and to thank God for our students and teachers and ask that all their schools will be dynamic places of learning and discovery for them. We will ask that this year will be full of promise, that they will experience new beginnings and grow in knowledge and wisdom during their school year. And finally, we will ask that God bless them with understanding and respect for one another and that they will be guided by his love. In this way, we hope that their backpacks will be a sign to them that they will have everything they need to learn and grow this year in school and in Sunday school.

Everyone in the community is invited to bring their backpack for a blessing.

Education for Ministry (EfM)

July 11, 2016 by St Mary Anne Admin

Education for Ministry (EfM)

St. Mary Anne’s has had a long history of an active Education for Ministry (EfM) group. After a short break as we welcomed Father John and Karen, we will be looking to begin another group at a time that fits the schedule of those who were unable to join the group that was previously held during the morning. Please check the bulletin and the E-News as we will be looking to have an organizational / information meeting soon. If you have ever thought about taking EfM or finding out what it is all about, please either let the VPOW know; contact Carol Weisel or call the office.

Don’t let the title fool you, EfM is not a course that prepares people for ordained ministry. The goal of the four year course of EfM is to bring Biblical teaching and principles into everyday life. We read Biblical passages every week in church and many of us read them at home each day but what does it really mean to us today? Are the teachings still relevant in the 21stcentury?

Each week the EfM group explores part of the history of the Bible and the founding of the church to see how we came to the beliefs that we profess each week. We also look at events in our own lives and in the world and through a process called Theological Reflection (TR). This process of Theological Reflection brings the Bible and other traditional literature alive in the world today.

Another aspect of the EfM group is helping us as Christians finding the way in which we fulfill our call the ministry as we are asked to do. EfM helps us to see that ministry comes in many forms and in many places. This process gives us the time and the space to discern God’s call to us as individuals in the world.
