March Vestry Notes

March 19, 2022 by St Mary Anne Admin

The Vestry met on March 16, with special guest, parishioner Wilson Coudon representing the Green Team in attendance.

The Green Team, a ministry of SMA, proposed a landscaping project for our wharf, which is utilized by Bay Venture Outfitters kayak rentals. The Green Team plan requires no funding from the church and includes clearing of brush, invasive plants, trash and undergrowth removal. This project’s intent is to make the area more attractive and environmentally friendly with native plants and one hard wood tree.

Father John’s report stated that our Sunday in-person attendance is now stable. We continue to hope that those who left due to the pandemic have not forgotten us and will return. The Wednesday service remains a good alternative for those who wish to attend a small, intimate service. Our Ash Wednesday services were well attended and Fr. John and members of our pastoral care team visited local care facilities to administer ashes and home communion.

Our Senior Warden, Michael Pugh briefed the Vestry on their upcoming retreat, the afternoon of April 3. During the retreat, members will look at growth initiatives, fellowship, capital planning, fundraising, Parish Hall usage, vestry development and responsibilities.

Junior Warden George Balog reported that a sump pump for the church basement, needed due to water levels during heavy rainfall, should be installed within the next few weeks.

Barb England presented the Treasurer Report. Vestry liaison reports included reports from Outreach, Mission, Coffee House and Garden Market.

Approval given to Wendy Gilbert to order and sell a new round of St. Mary Anne t-shirts to parishioners.

Fr. John offered a briefing on the Diocesan Convention. The minutes from this meeting will be available to all who wish to read them in the Parish office. Vestry minutes from previous meetings are available now.

Spring Churchyard Clean-up

March 19, 2022 by St Mary Anne Admin

As spring arrives, its time to clean-up the churchyard, and riverbank, for our Easter celebration and upcoming Garden Market.

Our annual Spring Churchyard Clean-up is on Saturday, April 2 from 8-11AM, with a rain date of April 9.

If you have tarps, rakes, blowers, and even a pick-up truck, please bring them with you.

Many hands make light work. We’ll provide the coffee and donuts. Join us for some fresh air, and fellowship, as we spruce up our church home.

Easter Flowers

March 19, 2022 by St Mary Anne Admin

Easter 2016

The St. Mary Anne’s Flower Committee will decorate the Church for the Easter Season. This will include Palm Sunday, Garden of Repose, Easter services and the door and gate baskets (which are continued for several weeks after Easter). A donation in any amount helps continue this tradition and provides an opportunity for you to remember or honor loved ones.

Envelopes are available in the pews or you may send your donation to the church office. Be sure to include the names of those you are remembering and make a notation indicating Easter Flowers. In order to be included in the Easter bulletin please remit by April 13, 2022.

4 Lenten Suppers of Soup, Salad, Bread and Dessert

March 2, 2022 by St Mary Anne Admin

We forge ahead with
4 Lenten Suppers!

We welcome the return of our popular Lenten Soup Suppers and will finally watch and discuss “The Grace of Les Misérables” the video discussion series we canceled at the start of the pandemic in 2020.

Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables is a truly epic story. Whether you’ve tackled the 1,400 page 19th century novel, witnessed the Broadway musical and memorized the soundtrack, or seen several screen adaptations of it, you already know the power of the story. In the 4-week study, using a DVD and workbook, “The Grace of Les Misérables”, author and pastor Matt Rawle, dives into six ideals found in the story–grace, justice, poverty, revolution, love and hope–each represented by a character in Hugo’s story. As these imperfect and relatable characters interact, we can see how these ideals work together (perhaps even in spite of each other) out in the world.

The author brings us to the intersection of Church and Pop Culture by drawing parallels between the iconic story and musical and our Christian calling, inspiring us to both understand our faith and live it out in the world.

We plan 4 Lenten Suppers of soup, salad, bread and dessert in the Parish Hall.

Please sign-up after services this Sunday or RSVP to the church office at office@stmaryanne.org or 410-287-5522. Please let us know if you can make a pot of delicious soup, salad or dessert for the evening study.

Come join us on Wednesday, March 9, 23, 30 and April 6 from 6-7:30PM. There’s no homework!
