St. Mary Anne’s String Studio

St. Mary Anne’s String Studio offers private lessons to all ages in Violin, Viola, Electric Bass, Guitar and Piano. Instruction provided for all levels from novice to expert. Private lessons, Group lessons, and Chamber Groups available.

Instructional Philosophy

Learning string instruments contributes and provides the ability to make music through skills learned in practice, understanding, and passion that benefits the mind. Learning string instruments improves mental, social, physical and academic skills. It builds confidence and self-esteem, introduces a vast cultural ground, collaboration, and the feeling of accomplishment.

Director of Music: Mr. Joel Alarcon, MA

Mr. Alarcon, originally form Tegucigalpa, Honduras, graduated from the National School of Music in 2005. In 2006, Mr. Alarcon moved to the United States to study violin performance at the University of Mississippi. He received his bachelors in violin performance at the University of North Dakota where he also earned a masters degree in violin performance and chamber group. Mr. Alarcon earned a second masters degree in violin performance at the University of Delaware. He has performed internationally throughout Central America, Brazil, and China. Mr. Alarcon has performed with notable groups/artists such as The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, The Pointer Sisters, Manuel Barrueco, David Lomeli, Sandi patty, Ricky Skaggs, Sir James and Lady Jeanne Galway, Charley Pride, Patti LaBelle, Dionne Warwick, Patti Austin, Ann Nesby, Vesta Williams, Carmen Twille, Alejandro Drago, Carmelo de los Santos, and Danilo Mezzadri.

Mr. Alarcon is an Adjunct Violin Instructor at Cecil College and Director of Music at Saint Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church.
