The following lists opportunities for congregants and community members alike to offer the gifts God has given back to our church and our community.  These activities are sponsored or take place at St. Mary Anne's, most with the involvement of our parishioners.  You are welcome to join in any of these activities.  Contact persons' telephone numbers are in our directory, or you may call the

WORSHIP

Worship Committee - Assists Rector in planning worship and music. Contact: Rector

Acolytes - People of many ages (approximately 10 years old and older) who assist at the altar with worship services. Contact:  Andrew Flood.

Altar Guild - Assists in worship by caring for the altar, the vestments and setting up for worship.  Contact:  Betty Diggs.

Choir and Youth Choir - Adults, young adults and children praise God through songs at worship from September - June.  Contact:  Bob Wallace

Flower decoration - Decoration of church for special holidays.  Contact:  Jane Gant.

Lay Readers - Assist at worship by administering chalice, reading intercessory prayers, and occasionally leading services.  Contact:  Donne Lewis

Lectors - Youth and adults read scripture at Sunday services.  Contact:  Henry Burden.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers - Deliver Holy Communion to shut-ins after the Sunday Eucharist.  Contact:  Donne Lewis.

Ushers - Welcome worshippers, take up offering, etc., at Sunday services.  Contact: Rob Green.  

 

EDUCATION

Christian Education - Interested people and leaders of the various educational activities meet to assess, plan and coordinate parish educational activities.  

This group oversees:

    Church School - Pre-K through high school; meets on Sunday morning after the 10.00 a.m. Eucharist.   Contact:  Sharon Cover.

    Nursery - available for small children during the 10.00 a.m. Eucharist.

    Vacation Bible School - held every summer for one week, as announced.

First Holy Communion classes for children - Held at the time of the Lenten program or by request.  Contact:  Rector.

Confirmation for Youth - 'One-on-one' preparation with an adult mentor for youth, grade 7 and up.  Confirmation is celebrated in December.  Contact:  Rector.

Confirmation for Adults - Reaffirmation of Christian faith in the context of the Episcopal Church.  Classes as announced.  Contact:  Rector.

Stewardship Education and Development Program - A program of information about the church, long-range planning, and every-member canvass - Stewardship throughout the year of 'time, talent and treasure'.

Education for Ministry - Four-year course on Christian history, scripture and theology;  weekly seminar groups on Tuesday evenings.  Contact: Rector, Marlene Coffey.

Wednesday Bible Study - Study and discussion of various books, themes and personalities of the Bible;  11:00 a.m. - noon in the Vestry House.  Contact:  Rector.

SERVICE

Mission Committee - Plans education projects, speakers, and mission oriented programs; allocates Sturgeon fund income following the guidelines of the parish's resolution for the use of this fund.

Outreach Office - (Open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, staffed by volunteers from the parish.)  Assists those in need with food, help with utilities, and rent, etc.  Networks with other agencies in the County.  Contact:  Laura McCann

Pastoral Ministers - Lay people who visit shut-ins and those in the hospital, helping with friendship, prayer, and in whatever way possible.  Contact:  Ginny Roney

Flowers to Shut-ins - Takes altar flowers each week to hospital, nursing homes, etc.  Contact: Ginny Roney.

Other community activities are held in the parish hall; the following is a partial listing:

Alcoholics Anonymous - Meets Thursday nights. Contact:  Church Office.

Narcotics Anonymous - Meets Sunday nights. Contact:  Church Office.

AARP - Association of Retired Persons - monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of the month.  Contact:  Rob Green

Cub Scouts - Meet Monday nights. Contact:  Sandra Gregg

Boy Scouts - Meet Tuesday nights.  Contact:  Al Parker.

North East Seniors - Meet Wednesdays.  Contact:  Flo Rittenhouse.

FELLOWSHIP

Episcopal Church Women - open to all women of the church.  Regular Social activities and business meetings.

Youth Group - Junior High and Senior High meet twice a month for programs and social activities.  Social and fund-raising activities.  Contact:  Bridget Coffey

North Elk Coffee House - Evenings of music and fellowship, open to the public.  Entertainment in a positive environment.  Contact:  Rick Waterhouse

Garden Market and Plant Sale - Members of the public, congregants and local nurseries participate in a festive day in early May buying and selling garden plants and accessories.  Contact:  Diane Thompson.


CLERICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES

Vestry - Vestry members are elected by the congregation for three year terms;  usually each Vestry person is responsible for one area of church ministry.

ADVISORY COMMITTEES

Finance Committee - Responsible for creation and monitoring of budget, recommendations to the vestry regarding financial matters, and appointing annual audit committee.  Contact:  Michael Berzon

Church Yard Committee - Responsible for administration and maintenance of the Church Yard and Memorial Garden. Contact:  Joe Williams, George Balog

Gardens Committee - Responsible for planning, planting and maintenance of church gardens. Contact:  Laurie Jones.

North East Clergy Association - Monthly meeting of the local clergy.  Contact:  Rector.

Diocesan Convention - Meets every year to conduct business of the Diocese;  St. Mary Anne's has three elected delegates. Contact:  Rector.
